On Sunday, May 29, Team DDRC participated in the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon. Whether walking, running, or cheering everyone on, we worked to raise awareness about inclusion and to fund our children’s book. The team had a blast, and would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support.
The Calgary Marathon is on May 29, and we’re looking for your support! Team DDRC is hoping to meet a fundraising goal of $10,000 to print and distribute an educational children’s book created by the DDRC.
Everyone Belongs: A Guide to Developmental Disabilities uses fun and interactive activites to introduce children to the concepts of disabilities and inclusion. It is designed to be completed by children in class with their teacher and peers, or at home with their parents or guardians. The purpose of this resource is to raise awareness about developmental disabilities, and to encourage children to remember that everyone belongs in our communities.
We hope to share this book with children across Canada. With your help, we can make this a reality! Interested in donating to Team DDRC? You can find our team page here.
Don’t forget! If you want to walk or run with Team DDRC, you can register for the race of your choice on the Calgary Marathon’s website.
It’s that time of year again. The DDRC is pleased to say that we will be participating in the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon for the fourth year in a row!
We would love it if you joined Team DDRC this year! There are race distances for every fitness level, ranging from a 5 km walk all the way up to a 50 km run. If walking or running isn’t your thing, there are other ways you can join – you can come down to the Stampede grounds on May 29th to cheer everyone on, or you can support us with a financial donation.
Interested in joining Team DDRC by signing up for a race? Here’s how:
Last month, Caitlin and Shaneef were filmed by CityTV for a “Marathon Minute” feature for the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon. We have been eagerly awaiting this video, and are thrilled to share it with you today!

Since the inception of the Charity Challenge in 2010, the Calgary Marathon committee has been shining the spotlight on local charities, allowing runners to turn their race into a fundraising event. Of the 70 charities who have taken advantage of this partnership in 2015, the marathon committee has chosen THREE organizations to promote as “featured charities.” Can you guess who they chose?
That’s right, they chose us! And as you can see, we’re pretty excited. And we’re hoping that this added exposure will help us to reach our team goals:
We want Team DDRC to be made up of over 50 walkers and runners
We want to raise at least $17,000
We want to increase participation from clients, employees, and community members
We want to raise awareness of the DDRC and disabilities sector
This is where you come in. If you’re a walker, a runner, or or would like to become one, consider signing up for one of the many race options, and create a fundraising profile with Team DDRC! Fundraising is completely optional, and registering with a charity gets you a discounted fee. Race day is Sunday, May 31.
If running or walking isn’t your thing, you can support team DDRC with a financial donation. No contribution is too big or too small!
If you’ve got spirit (yes you do), come join our cheering squad at the Stampede grounds! No experience is necessary, just bring a big smile and a positive attitude!
We’ll continue to share information on the event as it draws nearer, but you can always contact the DDRC Fundraising Committee at (403) 240-3111 with questions.
